Tonight’s episode begins in a private school, there is a spelling bee and a boy is spelling out a word, he does it and is the new spelling bee champion. His opponent helped him, she could have won, but she gave it to him. She says she read his story and she liked it. Fast forward many years and the two are getting married, then moving in together. Hi same is Pence. Fast forward again to 2003 and she tells him that he has to hurry or he is going to be late for his ceremony, he is being awarded the Lewis Thomas prize by Rockefeller University. He says he almost forgot. On to 2015, Pence is getting an MRI. 2023 Pence is taking his meds. Later in the evening, he is sleeping and hears a noise. He gets up, he calls out for Winnie, she tells him everything is ok to go back to sleep. He accuses her of cheating on him, she says don’t be silly, he is her king. She ushers him back to sleep. All of a sudden, its daylight, Winnie is on the floor dead, there are cops there and Pence is just standing there, he says he did it. He made love to her, and then he killed her, he did it all.

Benson and Fin are talking about the Velasco story, he tells her to let him and the white shield to untangle this mess.

Velasco and Churlish are told to take a seat in interrogation.

Carisi goes to see Benson, he shows her a photo of Pence who has Dementia. He records a video and says that he raped and smoother his dear wife and recorded this before his condition gets worse. Carisi says there is something about this that doesn’t sound right for him. Carisi says that Pence and his wife were married for forty years, a fairytale relationship and this doesn’t make sense. He knows she is busy but would appreciate another set of eyes on this.

Velasco is listening to something he said, which is on recording, “I grew up just look, I saw a lot of people get murdered. MY boss put a gun in my hand and make me blow this guy away, I did it.” Velasco looks shocked he turns to Churlish and says “you did it.” Velasco says he was messing with a perp, he made the whole thing up. The recording just goes on and on, digging Velasco deeper in his grave.

Velasco is made to give a urine specimen, Fin tells him that I the has anything to say, now is the time to do it.

Benson is with Pence, she asks him what happened. He says he smothered his wife, it was the plan, they wanted to leave together in dignity, his crime was worse than murder. He killed her and didn’t follow through with killing himself. Pence has more interest in a chipmunk statue in the room and Benson tells Carisi that he is a text book unreliable witness.

Fin is questioning Velasco and he tells he wants to know how come he knows so much about a dead father and son in Fortworth. Velasco says because he was there.

Carisi got a search warrant, he and Benson are searching Pence’s place. Pence had a CPAP machine. Homocide said the murder was at 11pm, the machine says Pence was up at 10 for 1 minute and 23 seconds, then back to sleep. Its not enough time to rape his wife, smother and kill her.

Benson is back in the boardroom with Pence he is upset that it couldn’t have been him to kill his wife, she must have been so afraid. Pence gets to mad that he smashes a glass dome in the boardroom and slits his wrist, he tells Benson that he doesn’t want to be there, he doesn’t want to be without Winnie.

Pence is in the hospital, his caregiver Virginia is with him, she leaves him to go home. Benson and Carisi are there, he says he would invite them to dinner but he doesn’t want to surprise Winnie.

Velasco is really upset, he tells Fin that he was just a kid when the father and son were killed. His first job was doing deliveries. One day he was offered a job for $180 week to go through this training and he would become a security guard. They sent him to a camp, it turns out it was a school for hitman. He was trained on how to use weapons, he was sent to Fortworth to do the hit, he chickened out. He ran to New York, his friend did the hit.

Benson review video of Pence’s building to see who came in and out. Turns out there was a food delivery guy who went in the elevator, took him 30 minutes to deliver the food and he was never questioned because they had a confession from Pence.

The video is shown to Pence and he is having a good day, he says he recognizes the delivery guy, it is Virginia’s nephew, Kevin.

Carisi tells Benson that Kevin’s DNA is not on the rape kit. And, Pence cannot identify him and Benson knows he is lying. He did it because he wants to go to prison, he doesn’t want to se a young kid in prison. Benson asks if that is fair to Winnie, would she want that. He says he is forgiving and Winnie knows that, more than anyone.

Benson and Carisi are in a room with Kevin and his lawyer. The found Winnie’s jewellery in his girlfriends’ apartment. Kevin says he didn’t mean to kill her. He needed money, he got the key from his aunt’s purse. He went into the apartment, Winnie woke up, he put a pillow on her face, she just died. Someone put a blanket over Winnie to preserve her dignity. Kevin admits that he raped her, before she was dead, but he used a condom.

Fin tells Benson that Velasco told him the truth and is ready to tell her the truth too.

The next day, Benson meets Velasco, his drug test was positive for powdered sugar. She tells him that he owes the two people who were killed, even if they were drug dealers. He needs to get his friend and bring him in, be accountable for those deaths. That is what it is going to take for he and Benson to be ok.

Benson goes over to see Pence, she reads a story to him that he wrote as a child.
